Forth Worth is a city located in North Central Texas. Forth Worth is surrounded by the communities of Dallas, Arlington, Irving, Garland, Plano, Terrell, Mesquite, DeSoto, Waxahachie, Cleburne, Burleson, Benbrook, Mansfield, Carrollton, Lewisville, Denton, McKinney, Decatur, and Weatherford. Fort Worth was one of seven forts established after the Mexican-American War as an Army outpost in 1849. Fort Worth was selected because it overlooks the Trinity River and its position allowed the American Army to protect the settlers.
Forth Worth did not really see it’s growth until it emerged as a popular stop along the Chisholm Trail that was used to move millions of cattle. Fort Worth became the center of the cattle drives and grew to be a large part of the ranching industry, earning it’s nickname “Cowtown”. During 1876 the Texas Pacific Railway brought the railroads to Fort Worth, allowing a economic boom turning Fort Worth into a premier cattle trader. This left Fort Worth’s focuses in the industries of ranching, stockyards, and railroads.
Due to Fort Worth being such a popular stop for cowboys during their cattle drives, many bars, saloons, and card rooms were started to accommodate the travelers.
